What is Physiotherapy?

“Physiotherapy is the assessment and treatment of the body by physical or mechanical means for the purpose of restoring, maintaining or promoting physical function, mobility or health, or to relieve pain” (PT Act, 1991). Physiotherapists use education, ergonomics and interventions such as exercise, massage, manual therapy, acupuncture, and electrical modalities to maintain and improve a client’s function or to prevent injuries.

Scope of Practice

“The practice of physiotherapy is the assessment of physical function and the treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of physical dysfunction, injury or pain, to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment function or to relieve pain” (PT Act, 1991).
